    ROSE OF THE YEAR 2024

    Meteor

Only a truly remarkable beauty could be crowned the RHS 'Rose of the Year' for 2024, so you can be sure of the pedigree of 'Meteor'! This Floribunda variety boasts an abundance of double bloomed brassy-yellow and copper-red flowers, which repeatedly grow from the start of summer, right through to the first frosts

A fascinating floribunda producing plentiful, lightly-scented double blooms of vibrant brassy-yellow, flushed coppery-red which intensifies in high sunlight. Rose of the Year for 2024, this repeat-flowering rosette wonder has excellent disease resistance, glossy dark green leaves, bushy growth and an erect, upright habit. Suitable for both pots and borders.

That’s looks stunning. I know orange blooms can divide the room but that one looks really interesting with some colour flush and deep tone. I may have a small space becoming available where a Spirea Goldflame may have to be reduced/retired so…

Fantastic @wiseowl - it really does look good. Hope to see pics of the new addition once it is in bloom. I don’t have many roses, even though they are arguably one of favourite blooms, so perhaps I will look out for this one.

I always thought that I didn’t like orange or yellow roses until I visited David Austin and fell in love with Lady of Shalott and Poets Wife. Soon joined by Tottering by Gently, Vanessa Bell and Lark Ascending.

Meteor looks fab and I dint know if I dare look at the new Peter Beale one..

Good morning @Oliya and @Butterfly6 @AuntyRach @Busy-Lizzie @Jenny_Aster and a warm welcome to the Rose of the year thread:smile:I must admit that although I love all Roses I do intend to lean towards the Orange/Apricot Roses when I can the symbolism of orange flowers is unique as these blooms represent enthusiasm, exuberance, excitement, passion for work and life, success, joy, warmth, and happiness.

My favourite for scent and leaf colour is Lady Emma Hamilton. I don't know why DA stopped it. Luckily I still have one in my garden in France.

That's a gorgeous rose @wiseowl, thank you for the head's up. Found a bare root one at Marshalls (30% off), how could I possibly resist :wub2:

They’re stopping those they don’t feel are robust enough for the changing climate/diseases (and in comparison to new cultivars, I guess). Tess d’Urberville and Munstead Wood have also gone. Must admit, although I love the colour and scent on MW, mine have never grown very strongly.

Back in the 1990's in the garden of a bungalow where I lived at the time there was a gorgeous deep apricot rose scrambling over an old wooden arbour. It was a bit late in flowering each Spring, but once away it flowered all summer with big blousy blooms and the most incredible scent. I never did find out what it was called which was a shame as I would have loved to have purchased another one in later years.
Looking forward to hearing how Meteor turns out.

Oh thank you, I might have to have a look. I have not bought roses from them before.

I'm battling with a mature Dublin Bay. Right rose wrong place. Some branches are at least 12ft high with flowers at the top. I'm trying to at least arch them towards the pergola but I know that at least half of them will snap at the base. They all snap off if they're young and whippy. It doesn't help that the stems can grow about a foot in a few days.
                                Wish me luck
