    Hi Everyone

I’m new on here and I am enjoying my 2nd year with my gorgeous inherited rose arch.
I was just out spraying the greenfly and noticed a single stem that has no colour in the leaves and very little on the bud. I’m curious to see how it blooms, but terrified that I am leaving something in there that is dangerous for the plant.
    Any ideas? upload_2023-5-7_19-9-33.jpeg

Its not dangerous for the plant and will be interesting to see how the flower turns out.
I think you have what they call a "sport" where a plant puts out a shoot that is different from the main plant.
This is often how variegated plants are produced, I'd leave it and see how it progresses.

Oh thank you so much! The previous owner of my house did the most amazing job of growing a beautiful arch around my front door (pic is from last year) and I’m terrified I kill it! ‍♀️

That is absolutely beautiful . No wonder you wish to preserve it. Have you taken over a whole garden full of such treats? the house looks lovely too from what is shown. Is it a 1930’s bungalow?

      It certainly is! Well done.

Yes the garden is lush. Last year was my first full year and every month I had a new surprise.

There is another rose arch on an arbor in the back with miniature pale pink roses. Really lovely. It’s my first garden so I’m very nervous I’ll mess it up, but hopefully I can continue where the previous owners left off.

That sounds fab. I love roses. I dream of moving to an old bungalow, with a bigger garden than we have now, when we retire.
You always get much more room.
Happy gardening, you will be putting your own mark on the garden now and getting it exactly right for you. We are in a new housing estate so it was a complete blank canvas and a huge learning curve (I’ve killed so many plants )

I’ve been on the other side of the world living in condos with communal gardens full of palm trees with gardeners coming every week. This is a whole new world for me but I’m loving it and I’m so grateful. Thanks for the lovely comments and good luck building your garden. I don’t think I could do that.
