Some parts of my Rosemary bush are going all brown and horrible, while other parts are flowering and fine. Does this happen ?

Yes, and it is not a good thing. I presume you mean whole branches and not just the bottom part? There is a disease that I learned about on one of the gardening programs that affects Rosemary in this way, and it requires you to chop off the whole affected branch to try to stop it spreading throughout the plant.

Even if it is that disease that they mentioned on the telly program, it doesn't mean its game over. I think it was that well spoken lad on Gardeners World that covered it. He said as long as you chop off the poorly branches, the outlook for the rest of the plant is good.

Same is happening with my blueberries, or one of the bushes anyway. I've considered chopping off the whole affected branch - but it appears to be about half of the plant. There are no berries on it though... You don't recall the name of the problem do you?

Hello, I have a different Rosemary problem. I've a few small plants (from seed this spring) kept on a windowsill, they've lots of white patches on them. It looks like a fungus kind of thing.

I'm totally new to any kind of gardening so any ideas anyone?

    Thanks

It sounds like your rosemary has powdery mildew - which I've not heard of before on indoor herbs. Or they might just be going rotten....

Rosemary is a big, strong herb and difficult to grow satisfactorily on a window sill. I think your best bet is to put them ouside and try and wash the white patches off. Expose them to fresh air and sun. Be prepared for the worst and then be happy if they survive!

I cut off half my plant - it had all gone brown and horrible and just broke away at the bast of the stem. I dont know what is wrong with it at all.

Thanks Flinty, I've just done a google search and it does look a bit like some of the photos.

I moved them outside a week ago but haven't tried washing it off yet. I'll give it a go.

I'd put half my young plants outside which are smaller and harder looking. The indoor half (apart from the mildew) were more attractive and taller.

I have a lot to learn!
