The incandescent light bulb was made illegal some years ago by our controllers. But you could still buy them if described as for "Rough Service " , as used in inspection lamps etc. Now my house is mainly Halogen and LED lighting , but I still prefer to use some 40w and 60w lamps in several places . I have bought them on Ebay for not very much money a pack of 10 . They now seem to be £6 each ! Am I looking in the wrong place now ? Or is it time for me to move on and become "legal".

Our local trade wholesaler has loads of them at cheap prices. :blue thumb: Though it's a bit of a price for you to travel down here for them!! :noidea:

If you're travelling this way I could get them for you.

I prefer the pearl bulbs. I have used ebay in the past and thought they were very reasonable. When I'm in London I go to the local Asian shops or market electrical/hardware shops, they always have a good stock of the now illegal ones and are cheap. Could you check such places in Wigan?

Thanks Shiney , JazzSi , GG
Just had another look on Ebay and found them for around £1 each for a 10 pack. I'll do a stock check to see if I need any golf ball screw in ones as well , and place an order.
As an aside , we are just having our kitchen and downstairs bathroom re fitted . The electrician fitted LED downlights with a 25 year guarantee . Really nice white light and the 18 lights don't add up to 100 watts :dbgrtmb: My friend at work says his kitchen lights pull 800 watts when all on !

There are a lot of LED bulbs that look just like conventional incandescent lights (right down to a warm white light output), as well as being cheaper to run and longer lasting - the drawback of course is that they aren't cheap.

I've been slowly changing my bulbs over to LED wherever possible, and only have the odd halogen one left to change now; the ones that annoy me are the G4 10w ones that I have in the living room - 18 bulbs spread across three light fittings that I would love to swap to LED's, but dropping the wattage from 60w to roughly 10w would cook the transformers as insufficient load would be being presented.

Still, we have just got a new lamp (G9) that supplies 240v straight to the bulb holders (5) so that might be the solution to change to LED - - I will need to make them dimmable though, as it currently chucks out 165w, making the living room look like the pitch at Wembley

Saving lots of money on electrickery, is good You can save it up to pay to SPEC-SAVERS for your new glasses you now need due to strained eye sight, Reading your Dickens by candle power
