I do this survey every year even though it's the quietest time of the year in the garden for birds! (unless there's heavy frost or snow)

My garden watch was a bit disappointing this year with the number of species down a bit on last year.
However goldfinches and green finches were new species to be counted - though possibly at the expense of the number of chaffinches.
    Blackbird - 2
    Bluetit - 1
    Collared dove -2
    Dunnock - 1
    Goldfinch - 5
    Greenfinch - 3
    House sparrow - 8
    Robin - 1
    Starling - 20
A sparrowhawk flew through with about 15 minutes of observation left and suddenly there were no birds to be seen!

The situation was exacerbated by this whacking great raptor that decided to perch on a gravestone just over our garden wall:DOH:

My count was down because the cat from down the road decided to sit underneath the bird table and kept returning no matter how many times I shooed him off. Still, I did well on woodpigeons this year - no less than six. All of them, I suspect, benefit scroungers who do nothing all day except pinch the best bits from the table.

We very rarely have more than four different birds at any one time so six in the hour was a good count.
Starling, Blue Tit, Wood Pigeon, Robin, House Sparrow Chaffinch.
    Nice Buzzard Dave.
