Im a complete novice and was bought a rubber plant 6 months ago as a gift. It started to grow a new shoot 3 months ago which is now a completely new plant - but is attached to the main plant. Is this normal? Can I remove and re-pot or will it die?

you can remove it, and yes it is normal for them to branch...if you want to remove it as a plant and pot it up then the best method is by air layering...I'll look for a link as it is difficult to explain
