shimsam, I can only see one image and that shows runner bean plants with slug/snail damage. If its only the lower leaves then I wouldn't worry. The trouble with putting slug pellets down is that snails may be living higher up amongst the beans/canes and never come down onto the ground to get the pellets, you may have to find and elimate them by hand.

Some of the slugs or snails may get to the bottom leaves before the pellets get them. The plants look OK so don't worry. :thumb:

I dunno how to stop slugs and snails, I never understand why there are so many of them, and great big ones suddenly appear in the greenhouse - and decimate seedlings, they must burrow in somehow? I do use those blue slug pellets around the more succulent plants, but they never seem to kill them all.

Hi shimsham. Looks like slug/snail damage to me also. I'd have thought that as long as the damage is limited to the lower leaves, there's nothing too much to worry about. Cheers...freddy.

I also have found whopping great snails well up on the sticks,
My daughter goes around at night and catches quite a few snails but,
I being an old girl go to bed early ! mind you I do get up early and have managed to bag a few.

When you start to arrange your canes next time, smear a ring of "Copper Grease" around the base just above ground level. This will stop slugs and snails climbing the canes. Available at automotive parts shops like Halfrauds.

    Works a treat.

My runner beans have only just started to flower. I sowed them at the usual time. Why are they so late?
The slugs and snails haven't helped, and the birds have also been picking off the flowers, but by now I've usually picked several crops.
