Just under a week ago we planted out our runner beans plants on our allotment, it was dug over before we planted them but nothing else added but now mainly the top shoots are starting to go yellow. I was just wondering if this could be normal or is there a lack of nutrients in the soil or something like that.

    Hi NG
Sounds like your soil is lacking something. Try watering with a feed. Try gently troweling in a bit of growmore also.

Also what's the pH of the soil. Can't remember whether runners like acidic or alkaline soil.

Hi newbiegrower, I think you may have put them out a little bit early. Conditions haven`t really settled yet for them so try and give them a little protection i.e gently wrap some polythene around the row. As for ph levels, most veg prefer a ph of between 6.5 and 7.0. And remember, if you use Growmore, it aoly lasts in the ground for 7 to 10 days, you are much better off using fish, blood and bone meal. David.
