Sad little weeping cherry tree

Thanks for your previous help Spruce. Starting a new thread as I was unable to see the messages on the first one, so hope I am doing it correctly now. Removed the gum without cutting into the branches. There has been no more gum developed but although there are some new leaves mainly on the end of the branches, many have died. Is there any hope for the tree? Feeding it very well and talking to it!!! Help.
