Many thanks for all the really great help and advice I've had in here but we've now moved to sheltered housing and have no garden. Could have a plot in the communal garden - nice layout around the complex - but right now I'm too sore and tired to want it. Maybe later on - but I can sit and enjoy other people's work for now
It's not a home or anything like that, just a complex of lovely individually rented flats each with own front door and tenants responsible for decoration and furnishing etc, and pets are allowed. Neighbours nice and so far it's like living in a posh hotel, the hallways are very plush and full of gorgeous planters - very decorative.
But I will keep poking my nose in here and following what's going on:spinning:

I hope you enjoy living in your new home and can rest and enjoy watching others do the work in the garden.

A difficult stage for you, I'm sure, but hopefully you'll enjoy your new way of life. It sounds as if you're already doing that.
You can always look at the existing communal areas and think 'I'd never do that, what a disaster that'll be' :heehee:

and maybe you can help to tinker with those planters at some point....

All best wishes from me too. We had to move from our huge beautiful garden when it got too much for us and know what a wrench it can be.

Good luck! It is a huge adjustment to make, especially when your aches and pains subside. I am sure eventually the gardener in you will soon want to start tickling about with some greenery of some kind so it is good you could, if you want, have your own little patch to scratch about in. You will be glad you have made the move and not have to worry about a garden going to pot. Hang in there and enjoy a new experience.

I hope you will be very happy in your new home which I presume is in/ near Kelso, a nice part of the world. 1 small piece of advice which you can either take or totally ignore:). There is an old expression of “ use it or lose it”. I have no idea what your aches and pains relate to but certainly I have plenty of arthritis to contend with. If you don’t exercise be that only a gentle stroll problems tend to get much worse and then it is really difficult to get any sort of fitness back. Much to my displeasure I was persuaded to go to a gym by my daughter during the winter months when not battling with my large garden. Went kicking and spitting but between you and me it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be and had a real laugh with other gym members who christened me their gym granny, shortened to gg, not sure that didn’t become gaga…..somewhat appropriate! I did however, refuse point blank to wear a sports bra and leggings:yikes:

:biggrin::biggrin: Many thanks lovely Cornerers. I agree, it did get to a stage where the garden was more of a drag than anything else, couldn't get peace to sit in it because I kept seeing weeds and then had to struggle to deal with them. Moved up to Peebles hailbopp - and after almost 40 years of living out in the wilds, I can now walk to shops! and cafes with cake... :chicken:
So we will prob get fitter than we have been lately. Everybody is friendly inc the ducks in the wee burn - but they can get a bit nasty if you forget their crossants:loll:

Oh Peebles is very nice too. You should have a golden postbox there c/o Scott Brash who has now won 2 Olympic gold medals in showjumping. Maybe there are 2 gold boxes! He and my daughter used to have showjumping lessons together many moons ago. He was a very nice young lad, not big headed despite being super talented.
