on our return holiday from TENERIFE, we flew with a company i cannot say there name, (as i have just made a strong complaint ,against them).
we were only about 10 minutes in flight when my grandaughter who was seated accross from me ,on the isle seat, said (pa pa! look !)she had the support arm in her hand,it had fallen off!!.now she is only 11 years and hates flying ,and she was doing fine, sitting accross from me ,till this happened.i reached over to try to click the arm rest into position but it would not click into position, then i noticed two locking pins on the floor of the aircraft(they had fallen off from the support arm).
i told my grandaughter not to worry (kidding her )how many more parts of this plane are you going to break before we arrive ??.
i informed the first cabin crew who was passing (selling there bargains) of the situation, producing the two broken parts of the arm rest, i had retrieved from the floor of the aircraft, tried to explain to the cabin crew in attendance but this to me they were not interested.the one i gave the two parts to glared at me ,and shook her head, and scowled at my grandaughter,as if she had broken it!!. to cut a long story short i complained again and a cabin crew member came with a roll of sticky tape and made fast the arm rest.
THE TAPE WAS WHITE WITH RED U.S. MARKED ( UNSAFE FOR USE!!!!)
(! WILL KEEP YOU POSTED OF THE OUTCOME!) MUSIC.:(:thmb:

Statistically, flying is the safest form of transport. As for wings wobbling a bit, that's not only normal but its a good thing. If the couldn't flex under the stresses of turbulence, then you'd have a problem.

Of course none of that changes the fact that when you are 7 miles up, doing nearly 600 miles per hour through air as cold as minus 150'C, it is not helpful if the airline let little details about quality and safety slip.

I've flown with an airline a couple of times that have not filled me with confidence. On one occasion they were happy to announce that the reason our flight was delayed by 3 hours was because the plane that we should have been on had developed a fault and had to land at an airport short of its destination, so they were borrowing one from Gerona in Spain to come and pick us up (we were in Zakythnos, Greece). I mean, fancy telling lots of waiting passengers that their plane is broke. When our new plane arrived we were hurried onto it, because of the time they'd lost we had something like a 45 minute window for loading, standard safety briefing, and take-off. During take off one of our group found the seat was bust, then a within a few minutes of that discovery one of the engines suddenly made a rather awful sound and all the staff promptly went to fastened themselves into their seats. While groaning horribly, the plane started to level off and bank round as though heading for the neighbouring island of Kefalonia. I don't mind telling you I was quite tense, expecting at any moment a briefing from the pilot to tell us we were making an emergency landing. Nothing happened, and we flew home as normal - normal that is except for about 300 passenger's faces all looking quite tense and pale.

The thing is aircraft do make lots worrying noises at various stages of the flight, everything from the clunking and whining of the landing gear being raised/lowered, to the dull rumble when the flaps come down as you approach the destination airport. If flight crews were to tell passengers what these worrying noises are then maybe less people would be nervous about flying.

A good friend of mine spent many years in Uganda when it was still coloured pink in an atlas. On an internal flight he was on, one of the passengers looked out of the window of the DC3 and noticed some oil streaks developing around an engine nacelle. The passenger scribbled a note to that effect and asked the steward (as they were in those days) to pass it to the pilot. A couple of minutes later the steward returned and said 'the pilot sends his thanks and compliments', and handed the passenger a screwdriver. :D

Dave.:lollol: What I hate, is when you're approaching your descending point, they throttle back the engines. It all goes quiet and you think the engines have cut out.:( Nowadays I hope there is a "Solly" driving!!

I get more nervous as I get older-it doesn't help that my teenage son watches seconds from disaster and spends the flight telling us about it all the way through the flights-evil little *$%^£$"%!!

i was working in AMSTERDAM, ( MANY YEARS AGO) i was due to return home so i decided to do a bit of shopping. i purchased 2 samurai swords, from an antique shop,to hang above the fireplace.
the person in the shop packed them in a special box,for safety.i was delighted with my purchase as i had been looking for some time for these swords.the swords were put along with my cases in the hold of the plane.on the way home we had to disembark at NEWCASTLE,(CHANGE PLANE).there was a problem with our plane,so all the baggage had to be removed from the plane and to be loaded onto the other plane! so all our cases etc were put on the (MAGIC ROUNDABOUT)and we had to claim them ,and have them put back on the other plane. i stood waiting, got my case but no long brown box, with my samurai swords came on the roundabout. all the passengers had collected there
property, all except me,and i was not moving till i got my swords. there must have been about 15 mins passed before this customs gentleman asked me what i was missing.i informed him 2 swords!!
he gave me a strange look, asked a few questions ,got on his phone, reporting the missing package .
it must have been another 10 mins before he got the message(THEY HAD FOUND MY SWORDS)
i was rushed to the plane(which was on the tarmac ready for take off) awaiting yours truly.i had three officials ushering me onto the plane(i felt like a pop star),till i saw the passengers faces, they were livid. there must have been about 35 to 40 mins delay, for a missing package.i spent the rest of the journey looking out the window as i was getting daggers!!!
got the swords home safely. HUNG THEM ON THE WALL , WIFE HATED THEM,
COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER GIVEN TO CHARITY SHOP!!!!.
