    Hi Everyone,

Just a little reminder to everyone to stay safe in their gardens.

Just been talking to my mum and found out she had a fall in her garden yesterday :(.

She fell down her steps onto the patio slabs near a stonework wall with sharp corners. Thankfully she got away with a bruised leg and a cut, sore hand. It could have been much, much worse and as she lives on her own...... lets not go there.

Just wanted to remind people that gardens can be obstacle courses, uneven paving, loose steps, containers restricting pathways, slippery algae on paving etc

Take things slowly, look where you put your feet and try to see an accident waiting to happen... before it does! Don't let the cats trip you up or slip on bird fat-ball/suet cake bits dropped onto a pathway. And don't trip over garden implements or washing-line props as was the case with mum!

You lot are far too precious to your families, and to us on GC, to get hurt!

Sorry if this sounds preachy - certainly don't mean it to - just wanted to maybe gently remind folks how easy it is to take a fall in a place like a garden environment. Mum had just had a gentle warning shot across the bows - this post could have been very different...

    Thanks for reading.

Too late she cried. :mad:You are so right CM. I have been meaning to put a couple of screws into my back gate's cross bar. Its a rather large heavy gate and the cross bar is 2" x 4" and I knew it had become loose but did I attend to it when I should have done, No. Pulling it open yesterday morning the cross bar fell on my head as I bent down to tug at the bottom of the gate where it was sticking. I still have a very sore spot on my head and I am lucky it didn't knock me out. So I have temporarily left the cross bar detached until I can securely screw it back into position. But your warning is good for all of us to take note and especially to repair or make good those areas which we know could come back and bite us if we do not attend to them when we should. So I guess its don't put off today what you know may be too late tomorrow. Thanks CM.:D

Moyra - so sorry to hear of your accident but glad you have escaped relatively ok - get some frozen peas for that bump though!

Thanks for backing me up on this - it can all happen in a trice and it is especially annoying when something happens that you were aware of but did nowt about!

Get better soon and thanks again for posting here.

Having written all this I've just barged around a corner in the garden and nearly cracked my head open on a hanging wooden bird feeder house.... :o

Note to self - read your own posts!
