Sand lilly/sea daffodil

    Spotted this gorgeous flower alongside the beach whilst on my recent holiday to Cyprus.

    Apparently these plants grow only in sandy conditions in the Mediterranean region and they are now on the Cypriot endangered plants list.

    Hi there PeterS, it is a beautiful plant and the reason it is on the Cypriot list is the tourists are taking over the plants habitat,beaches etc.

    Would love to try and grow it but I don`t think it would to well up here.

    Pip - there is nothing to stop you growing some in a pot with well drained compost. You could always shelter the pot over winter. I grow and overwinter quite a lot of things that aren't hardy.
