Depending on whether you have been naughty or nice, which could affect the outcome, what is on your Santa's List this year?

Nothing garden related for me (yet! :heehee: Time, or this thread, may change that  ) but, so far, I have:-
    • wind proof sunglasses
    • fleece lined pj's
    • scented drawer liners
Not greedy am I (?) :snorky:

What is on your list this year?

I keep an Amazon list for things that I see and think might be useful or nice, then family may know what I might like for Xmas! (We all do the same!)

      I would currently like:
      - a drill and some drill bits
      - bamboo canes
      - pruning snips
      - bike reflector stickers
      - a new inner pot for my combo pressure/slow cooker.

      How exciting!!!! :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

I have asked for help with a lawn mower. There is obviously no rush so I will wait and see if any bargains come up in the Easter bank holiday sale.

I would have asked for a greenhouse but I had a need for that sooner than planned.

Otherwise I would rather not get presents. As ungrateful as that may sound. If I asked for something specific I would probably be given something similar. I would then have to say thank you very much and live with something that doesn't do the job I wanted it for.

As boring as it might be, i would rather have the money to buy what I want.

@toppington A new drill and bits was on my wish list a couple of birthdays ago. I didn't want to pay too much so I patiently waited. Eventually I got one for half price.

                  I know what you mean.

Our little family send out an email with links to amazon or wherever, usually with the proviso if you can find it cheaper elsewhere then do so. It's all modest stuff, some of mine are garden related:
                  • Bootscraper
                  • Hand cream for gardeners
                  • Low carb beer
                  • Sugar free chocolate
                  • Tyre pressure gauge (I recently discovered my 40+ year old one is reading about 20% low)
                  • Koala Hot Water bottle - preferably not made from a real koala.

I've recently thought about a boot scraper. At the moment i scrape my boots on the step by the back door. That defeats the object somewhat. Next summer I am hoping to create a raised bed with the pavers I bought. I thought I could perhaps incorporate a boot scraper into my design.

Should not the giving of gifts at xmas be a surprise. Isn't that what xmas is about, well part of it anyway. R and I have always made present lists but for the past two years I have insisted that we do not. For me - and this is my opinion only, no offense intended to those who like lists - making a present list is effectively choosing my own gifts. For the person doing the buying choosing items from a list is easy and little effort involved. I know a list means you will get what you want and not what you don't want - nothing worse than an unwanted gift, especially if it was expensive. But, I think it means more if the person giving put the time and effort into choosing. There is also the school of thought that suggests you should know the other person well enough to buy something they will like :snorky::loll:

You'd have thought so wouldn't you. To be fair I only have a wish list because that's what I'm asked to do. For a while now I have bought my own presents and my family have paid for them.

Given a choice, especially with our finances as they are, I would rather not give or receive presents.

I don't have a big family but my wife has. There is only so far you can spread the fan. She has 2 brothers and 2 sisters all with children and grandchildren. She also has 3 children of her own and 5 grandchildren. There has to be a line drawn somewhere.

Anyway. Apologies for that dose of xmas humbug. @luciusmaximus you're quite right. Its the thought that counts. This year on my birthday I got a grandad card. My first ever. The girls had chosen it themselves and all written inside it. I was chuffed to bits.

I very much agree; however the only time I see or hear from the majority of those I buy gifts for is christmas - I don't know the children well or know what they like or what their parents like, and in the same way they do not know me either! In that way, at least I know I am getting them something useful and wanted rather than something which will be thrown or given away.

With friends we surprise each other or decide to go out for a group meal or plan a trip somewhere, but it is spontaneous and never wish-listed!

I have a goddaughter who we buy birthday and Xmas presents for. We always have to deliver them. We would never see her otherwise.
