    Hi All

I thought I would try some Gherkins this year I sowed the seeds a short while ago and I placed the seeds in my daughters (warm) bedroom and some how and we can't think of what may have happened the pot labels are mixed up there were 3 Courgette pots and 3 Gherkin pots now one row of 3 have all germinated and the other row have not.

The question is which of the two would have germinated first think hard all of you my daughters life depends on the answer being correct. The very thought of me visiting the greenhouse and finding a Courgette plant taking control fills my daughter with fear and explaining my actions afterwards fills me with fear.

So what is the answer??? and no sending my daughter to boarding school is not an option.

    Thanks

    DAve

Kristen - is that the egg shaped building in London ?

We went down there a summer or two ago and thought it looked so odd in the landscape. No idea what company works from there though as was across the river but I do remember it looking so out of place.

Well, at a push I would say the courgettes will have sprouted first, as the gherkin is a (if I'm wrong don't blame me blame my 12 yr old daughter) cucumber, and courgettes come earlier than cucumbers ( do they?)

AKA The Swiss Re Building. Lord Norman Foster designed it (yep, same bloke who "designed" the Millenium "Wobbly" Bridge - speaks volumes...)

Why not pot up 2 more seeds, mark carefully and see which comes up first and maybe also see which looks like which for i.d.? Could work?

And if you pop them in a sandwich bag each with a bit of water, you see which germinates fastest too! Both may even germinate, then you can compare them.

:D No need for the boarding school here, just the bog standard "parent" answer. "Now this is an interesting thing here, let's investigate. Internet says this, books this, let's experiment with new seeds. And to confirm, let's just wait and see. " (plenty of nodding and good parenting- facial expressions)
OK, mine is just 8 but this seems to work. And I place my bets for the Courgettes. :)

Have you asked Daughter if she can remember which labels she swapped?
(This is exactly the sort of wind up mine would have done :) )
