I made some scones some weeks ago but was not impressed, they were very dry. Anyone got a good recipe for them? Thanks..
Rich fruit scones Ingredients: 225g (8oz) self raising flour 2.5ml (1/2tsp) salt 50g (2oz) butter 50g (2oz) Sultanas 25g (1oz) Sugar 150ml (1/4pint) fresh milk extra milk for brush method. 1. Sift flour and salt into a bowl 2. Rub butter into flour until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. 3. Mix in sultanas and sugar 4. Add milk all at once. Mix to a soft, but not sticky dough with a knife. 5. Turn on to a lightly floured work surface. Knead quickly until smooth. 6. Roll out to about 1cm (1/2inch) thick. 7. Cut into 7 or 8 rounds with a 6.5cm biscuit cutter. 8. Transfer to a greased baking sheet. Brush tops with milk. 9. Bake at 230c (450F) Mark 8 for 7-10 mins or until well risen and golden 10. Cool on a wire rack
The Be-ro recipe for Plain Scones - 225g (8oz.) Self Raising Flour Pinch of Salt 50g (2oz.) Margarine Enough Milk to make a soft dough Heat oven to 220 c ,425 f ,Gas mark 7 , grease baking tray Mix flour & salt ,rub in marg. Add enough milk to make a soft dough & knead Roll out to approx 1 inch (1cm) depth & cut out the scones Bake for approx 10 mins .
my wife has recently baked some scones using buttermilk came out huge and very tasty this is the recipe she used: Ultimate scones recipe - Recipes - BBC Good Food try it with strawberry jam and baileys cream (baileys cream is in stock in our village Tesco)
