My main interest is woodturning not very good at it.
I am very keen on Penturning, which has now become my main interest. It might be because i seem to have more success with the smaller stuff. I live in South Ayrshire and i also love my two Labradoodle dogs, Flynn & Indy. I also am keen on Photography, which i now find myself taking pictures of my pens ( sad life ).

    Celt40,
Where in S.Ayrshire are you?, I have lots of timber you can have for free. I also have 3 tons of Yew stored at the house ready for turning and many large blanks of home grown and exotics. Pen turning is very satisfying and takes a lot of patience 'cos they are easily broken when on the mandrel and getting thin.
More power to your elbow !!!!
    ;)

    I live in Girvan.
20 miles south of Ayr. I don't turn much these days cos my timber store is still full of green wood. It has been drying now for 10 - 14 months.
I use some local wood, and some exotic woods from USA, Australia. I took part in a pen swap and pen blank swap with other penturners and have some nice bits of timber from all over. I do enjoy making pens.
I have started to cast my own Acrylic blanks, they make a far different looking pen, it's all down to taste. I will post some pictures of my pens, when i find out how it is done.

We have 2 Labradoodles Flynn & Indy. Indy, if all goes well will have a litter of pups soon, she is about to go into season.
My wife is alergic to dogs, and she always wanted to own one. We tried with some other breeds but it ended in sore eyes and runny nose. She did research on web and found out about the Labradoodle breed. It started in the 60's over in Australia. A labrador and a Poodle were crossed in the hope to get a dog with an non shedding coat, so that blind people that had an alergy to dogs, could get a guide dog.
Thankfully the Labradoodle has worked and as you see we have two!!!!!

Gingernutsman. Oh how i wish i could turn wood half as good as you. I might need to get a few tips. My skills are very limited, my main problem is keeping my tools sharp. I was not blessed with much gray matter and i find grinding so hard. Even though i have 2 sharpening jigs. Thats why i also like to grow flowers. I can do that.

    Miraflores,
Thanks a lot I try to do my best in everything I do.

    Celt40,
Your pens look great and as far as the other turnings are concerned, keep on practicing and it will come. The sharpening is easy after someone shows you how to do it properly. It's like eveything else, practice, practice, practice. every body has their own prefered angles and grinds, no two people agree on them and once you learn to use your jig properly then repeat acurate angles will be easy.

Here are a couple of my latest pieces mostly from Yew, Elm and Walnut. I have about 2-3 tons of Elm dried for 5-6 years. If you want to come up from Girvan sometime, I can give you some grattis. G.man
