Im looking for some addvice for making my back garden more private ,

The garden i have at home is about the size of a shoe box , at the minute the whole lot is slabbed and looks very depressing , so i would like to bring this small space alive , there is also no privacy due to on looking houses So i would like to put up some trellasis with climbing plants that will block out nosey neighbours and also would like to line the low fences on both sides with bamboo .

Does bamboo grow well in the uk and would this work as a kind of screening?

also what other plants would be good to use as a screen ?

Other contributors would have a better idea what to suggest if you posted some photos.

A "quick fix" will usually be expensive.

We've dealt with trellis on existing fences only yesterday, maybe this will give you an idea.

Certain types of bamboo are really good as a screen (others can be an invasive nightmare) but they take time to grow and thicken up.

I've this 8' high stand of bamboo at the bottom of my garden. It's only about eighteen inches deep and completely hides a six foot post and panel fence. But it's taken nearly ten years to achieve this.

Quicker growing suggestions would be wisteria or the many varieties of
    clematis.
As for livening the space up, try some large patio pots with a variety of shrubs or small trees, but this can be a bit expensive.
