Obvious if you think about it, the frame contained a picture of a potato.
                One from Jersey. :rolleyespink:

I think it's 'Albis ?? Royali'. The middle bit maybe Sp. That would make it the name of the tulips depicted - 'White sp[ecies] Royal.' Think somebody's copied them from something like Matthew Sweert's Florilegium of 1612 - here's an image for comparison, they're all named:
                  img_0822.jpg

If I'm right it's not very good Latin, should really be something like Tulipa alba sp. royalis. Having watched the film Tulip Fever on the telly recently (not very good sadly!) I gathered that white tulips 'broken' with red were highly prized in Holland then, so 'royal' would be an appropriate name for such a bulb.

@Clare G ,..amazing post and i am in agreement with your tagging the flowers on the frame,..most certainly Tulips,..i was distracted by just looking at the script.

Your picture on the left above,..working from top left to right going down to Tulip image No 8 and Tulip image No 11 are almost identical to those on the frame,..it does also look like someone gave the incorrect Latin,..perhaps even the wrong colour to the Tulip images they painted,..as you posted 'White sp[ecies] Royal.'

Thanks to your great detective work we now know the script refers to Tulips and more than likely the white ones 'Royals'.

I was way off in my thinking that the first word was Alocs,..in some languages it means Drink,..however not thinking Latin,..thanks again for your input and highly informative post.

A pleasure @glengarry23 - it was lucky I had watched that film the other week, so was feeling 'tulip-aware'!
