It's amazing what you find on the Medway. We were on the non-tidal section, near East Farleigh and spotted a cormorant, preening itself in a tree!

What a lovely walk you had WOO, and what great pics. I know what it's like trying to get decent pics of the seals, or the swans, or the moon. Thank you for all the great pics.

What extremely good luck being at the right place at the right time to catch those pics of the seal just having caught a plaice or flounder! :gnthb: BTW, that is a pic to put in the "With the camera in my pocket" as well.

    Thanks for sharing, Woo.

:thumb: Wonderful pics Woo, fancy that on the Medway though.. Is it the only one or are there more..? What a great time you must have had watching & taking pics...:thumb:

I saw & swam with one off the Isle of Man many years ago.. I think it was as fascinated by me as I was him.. He swam about 8 yds further out than me, but followed me up & down for about 10 mins before swimming off.. I can still see that whiskered face looking at me now... A wonderful experience I feel privileged to have had..

Chris, there are tons of cormorants on the Medway. About the only good thing about going to the Medway Leisure Park in Strood :( is that you can always watch a line of cormorants sitting patiently on the river buoys ready to dive in and grab a fish. The other day, whilst waiting near grubby old Sun Pier in Chatham, I watched a line of over twenty swans making a stately, single-file progress along the river. I wonder where they were all going?

Fantastic pics, Woo - who'd have thought it? We're becoming quite exotic, aren't we?

Not surprised there are lots of Cormorants in Strood ClaraLou, as you're so close to the estuary and not far from from the sea. What I found amazing was that the cormorant we saw, was well inland and on the non-tidal stretch of the river, i.e. fresh water! Also, he was perching quite happily at the top of a dead tree and holding on with webbed feet!:hehe:

Regarding cormarants, I see quite a few in Mote Park, on the lake.

A mate of mine who is angling mad hates them, he reckons they take loads of fish from lakes that are stocked by angling clubs

... come to think of it, we saw several sitting in trees near some freshwater pools at Penshurst. They were stretching out their wings, presumably to dry them off after a fishing expedition. I think I may have some photographic evidence somewhere!
