I think he sucked up to the right people.

I think he was born with the old silver spoon anyway.

I`m inclined to agree with you Pete, he`s done nothing worthwhile to merit the title. :gnthb:

I don't think he was born that posh, Pete. His dad was an engineer - comfortable I imagine, but not a toff. I think the title was probably for charity work. It usually is. How else would would Lord Harris of Peckham, aka the Harris Carpet King, have ended up with a title?

Well he comes over as posh.
I had a mate who did the odd job for the RSPCA, he always classed that as charity work.
I think they paid him well though.

Sorry Dai not heard of her.

I think titles are handed out far too freely any way

:) In Harris' case, having made lots of money out of swirly axminster, he chucked lots of it at good causes (money, not swirly axminster). Perhaps you have to have large amounts of cash to be truly holy. :D

Digressing a bit about the "Paralympics."

This will not please some people, but I'm speaking from a bit of experience as my wife has been disabled for 30 years.

I can't take "winners" in disabled sports too seriously.
No disability whatever it is, can have exactly the same effect on a number of people. It's not an "even playing field." There is a form of "handicap" applied to some competitive events, in an attempt to make it a bit fairer but it's not at all refined and a bit hit and miss. I have every admiration for people who take part in such events, but in my opinion; "they're all winners."
