I have recently planted a large container with a dark purple leaved ?sedum? which has lovely tiny red flowers. Unfortunately something seems to be devouring the thick leaves of this cracking little plant. Some of them have been nibbled down to the stem. I have had a good sniff about but see no trace of caterpillars so does any one have any idea what is scoffing my sedum's?

I'm no expert, Dog, but it sounds like slug damage to me. I've got some sedums myself and have never had anything attack them.

Hmmmm. The obvious suggestion is slugs and snails. They're not usually a major problem for the sedum family once the plants are established but they like to nibble the young plants. Put down some pellets, or go out at night with a torch and inspect your plants - you'll soon find out if it's slugs/snails.

I've lost a purple Sedum to slugs before, but never the green leaved variety.
