Hi All, I bought a sedum this Summer & plated it in my border. It now seems to be dying down, leaves going yellow etc.
Is this normal or should I be worried?

Don't worry - it's normal. It will be up again next spring unless you have planted it somewhere wet and dark

Yes, I'd plant them, unless the ground is frozen, which is unlikely, or far too wet, which is more likely.

The ground is pretty wet & i have heavy clay soil. do you think I should hold off planting them?

If so what should I do with them, I have no greenhouse!

Pot them up in reasonable size pots in gritty well drained compost and put the pots in the shelter of a wall, or under a shrub until spring.

I have noticed that the larger Sedum that is already in the border has 15-20 of these little buds just poking out of the ground. A couple of questions:
    1. Do they stay like this until next spring or keep growing?
    2. Should I chop off the dying stems?
    3. do I need to mulch over th buds? if so what with & how deep?

    Thnx

They stay like that, I leave the dying stems - they provide winter structure - but you can chop em down if that suits, I wouldn't mulch over the buds except with free draining bark as you might hoe them out in the spring and/or they could rot off. Others may disagree with this last.

If they are S.spect. Autumn Joy or similar common cultivar they will get on with whatever they are given come spring time. One growing season and they will take hold unless there's standing water (!). Tough and excellent plants IMO

The old stems and seedheads look fantastic when frost comes, again assuming it's probaly Autumn joy.

I totally agree with Jazid on this one - a great plant, even though designers like it! :D
