I received an email from JBA seed potatoes yesterday, warning of some changes due to the poor weather. The important part is just below in italics..

This means it's probably going to get very expensive for next season.

Expensive enough this season as 85% of my seed spuds have rotted in the ground. Would have been cheaper to get a bag of spuds from Aldi and saved a load of work. I haven't even bothered earthing up what's left of them.

Looks like I'll be keeping some of this years meagre harvest for next years seed spuds! Not recommended I know but still growing an unknown variety (possibly Cara) we originally got from friends in Wales 2 years ago, saving a few each year and still doing really well :)

I harvested my spuds a bit early this year as at least one plant got blackleg disease so I harvested early to avoid losing the lot.

Since then, in a different patch of ground, I've started off some more. They are so far doing very well, so maybe all is not lost. This is the first time I've ever started spuds off as late as this. I would normally say that if they are not in the ground by mid june its too late, but I've done some reading and apparently although its not ideal, you can sow as late as early august.
