    good morning to you all

as most of you have been doing this years i thought i would see how you do it

im quite new to doing plants ect this will be my 2nd yr growing veg in pots and my 3rd yr growing all my flowers,

i have got a little excited in the past and started growing all my flowers in feb and they are all gagging to go in the ground by the beginning of may,

and by the mid/end of august they all look drab and half dead :( when everyone elses look great [IMG]

so....................... i have decided that i will not sow anything before the 1st of april apart from what has to be sown i have some dianthus which states to be sown now

i only really grow the usual petunias ,bizzy's, marigolds , malope & morning glory and lots of others but just the easy ones ,

now by doing it this way will the plants last longer than my others did the last 2 yrs ?

and will they still be gagging to be planted at the beggining of may ?

Why not grow some perennials. Some can be very long flowering. I recon my garden looks at its best in August/September time. There are loads out at that time.

As a annual Cosmos should flower until the first frosts.

If you want long flowering things, tender perennials are good. You already have Petunias and Busy Lizzies, there are also Geraniums (technically Pelargoniums), Argyranthemums, Fuschia, Salvia 'Mystic Spires', Osteopermums, Felicia, Diascia etc. You can find all these as small plugs in a lot of garden centres. Most should go on till November. And keep deadheading.

Everything that has been said but just to add sow later for later blooms. If you have the facility to sow early, then do so but save some seed for later sowings. I regularly sow seed very late for autumn flowers. One of my favourites in the autumn is lavetera, that keeps going when the summer flowers have run out of steam.
