I am new to gardening, and am looking for some advice.

I have planted 3 rows of Swede (Ruby), and the first row I planted about 4 weeks ago, whilst large and looking healthy in terms of foliage etc, have fallen over.

I can find no pictures of what these seedlings should look like when growing, and am a little concerned.

The plants are about 4"-5" in length. They have about 2" of purple stem from the soil until you get to the first leaves.

I am wondering if this is just because we are having so much rain, or if I need to gather some soil around the 2" of lower stem to form a mound.

Does anyone know what may be the issue, if any?

A few of my carrots have done the same, but the other plants in the carrot rows are fine.

    Thanks

    Anthony

I am no expert but love to grow as much veg as I can.
I have carrots in my greenhouse and some outside.
I know when I water mine well they fall flat to the soil but they soon spring back again when dry.
If you have had as much rain as we have had here in Cheshire I would suggest it could be just that.
Try giving the tops a little shake to rid of excess water
(unless there may be a rabbit nibbling below ground?)
    :D

    Many thanks.

I shall wait another 7 or so days until the rain stops - forcast is for more rain at the moment.

Hopefully they will stand back up
