Im new to growing veg and i have seen on various websites packs of seeds as well as plug plants. Is one better than the other or is it just personal prefrence, Also are there any companies that supply better quality seeds/plugs than another with regards to quality of produce as such.

    Thank you

Seeds you get loads of and are very cheap, but you have to do all the raising of them yourself. With plugs, you have little plants, which you just have to keep going. Rather more expensive, as you're paying for the time involved in getting them to the stage of being plugs.

I use a variety of seed companies for both seeds and plugs,

There is also the question of what size plug to buy. Some of the tiniest ones are disappointingly slow to develop, unless you have a greenhouse or warm light windowsills.
If you are a complete beginner it's probably best to buy slightly larger plugs, then you're more likely to be successful. Success with your first efforts will really inspire you!
For things that can be sown outside in Spring, choose some easily germinated seeds such as mixed lettuces, spinach and carrots. These are relatively cheap and will delight you by coming up quickly.
    Have fun. [IMG]
I agree with dendrobium, all those suppliers are reputable!

I never buy vegetable plugs I make my own particularly with the more hardy varieties.

I sometimes buy flower plugs because some of these are difficult to germinate by the amateur.

That's a very informative site, TG [IMG]
I often buy plugs if I just want 1or 2 plants to try. Even if you only plant a few seeds and save the rest it can get very expensive buying loads of packets!

    Yes it is my site.

Speaking of which I hope in future you the members won't mind if when I reply to a query I link to my website where and when applicable.

The reason I ask is;I am not a very good typist and quite often a picture tells it all and it saves me typing a reply.

quite a lot of organic plugs are grown for the big seed companies by Delfland Nurseries, www.organicplants.co.uk

If you are within visiting distance of the nursery, plug plants cost between 5p and 20p, you just pick up as many as you want. Quality is superb. If you're not within visiting distance, IMO it makes sense to order direct from the original grower, the plants will be cheaper and fresher.
