Apparently it's now possible to travel from John O'Groat's to Land's End free using the senior citizen bus pass. Nevertheless, I'm still trying to co-ordinate a suitable bus route journey from London to Southend.
Has any other old codger like myself managed to discover a website which helps to plan bus journies on local routes? The only "journey-planner" sites I've found bring rail travel (at a a price!)into the equation.

Google helps, try googling a town name en route say Colchester or Basildon that should get you the local council or tourist info site, then look for pages detailing "transport" or "how to get there" it may well give you a link to that bus company covering the area, (e.g First Essex) that should have a list of routes. You'll probably have to do that for more than one bus company, not a quick answer but somewhere to start.

Example, on the south coast First run a double decker from Exeter to Bournemouth, Wilts and Dorset run between Bournemouth and Southampton so long runs are possible, just takes a while to trawl through the different companies. It seems as though the long runs are more usually about 30 miles or so, the Exeter > Bournemouth is an exception at about 90 miles.

Thanks, Dorsetmike, I'll try doing it that way. My navigational "Skills" will probably land me in the English channel.

Thanks for the link, Shiney. It looks useful. I'll put it into my favourites....but not the joke!
