I'm hoping our Mr Shiney can throw me some advice.
Some of you know I'm in the process of buying a property in rural Lincolnshire, the current septic tank does not meet current regulations! The seller is not in a position to rectify the problem so I've re-negotiated the purchase price and will commission the works at my cost.

How much could I expect to pay for a replacement system?

I'm hoping I've made a good deal on the revised purchase price.

Our Septic tank did not meet current regulations, but because it was over a certain age there was no requirement for it to be upgraded. Without spending ages looking for it I am positive the regulations are online somewhere.

If it's working ok and you shouldn't need to replace it, unless the rules have changed, but if it's polluting a ditch or stream or river then you can be made to do something about it

Cost's can be between £2000-£5000 or more if size and problems with getting it into the ground

Thanks guys, not sure the age of the current tank but the house must be 100 years+ and I doubt it's ever been changed. I, with your help may have just saved several thousand pounds, thankyou!!

Just had a memory thing. The info about the cut off date is right at the end of the information. I remember reading through it all and getting more and more concerned until the last paragraph.
We think the cut off date is actually quite recent, like in the 1990's, but don't quote me on that.

As far as I'm aware (I'll get a survey done), the current system is a "soakaway", There is a small ditch/dyke on the perimeter of the garden but no signs of discharge into that and definitely not a watercourse.

Oh, Palustris, fountain of help:yay:, the existing system was commissioned prior 1985, I think I'm in the clear but I will still renovate/replace it at some point.

Thanks guys, with the money I've saved from re-negotiating the purchase price, I might treat myself to another car, alas NOT an Aston Martin.
