Seriously Hot

HI ,this is my first post so be gently with me.I have had my new Halls 6x10 greenhouse up and running from early March and am more than pleased with my Tomatoes,Peppers and bedding plants etc.Problem is the heat.This morning it is reading 120 deg f.Both auto vents are fully open, door open, sreening up and have just painted cool glass on this very morning.Oh, and have damped down three times this morning .Is there anything else i can do???:(

 

Hi Buck. Are you sure it's THAT hot in there ? Your thermometer needs to be OUT of direct sunlight. Apart from that, it sounds like you've done all you can.

If you painted with cool glass you shouldn`t get direct sun on the thermometer :wink: I`d measure the temps at plant height.

 

Moved thermometer to shade...98 deg f.Was panicking big time.

 

98 will cook them a little slower than 120 hehe

 

I give up then.

 

They`ll be ok at 98F if you keep the humidity up, a full greenhouse is better than a half empty one in that respect.

 

Down to 80 deg f.

 

My 'min/max' thermometer recorded a daytime high of 42ºC and a night low of 22ºC - back in February, I remember being delighted when the daytime temperature actually got above 2ºC!

 

A friend of mine is using 'thin' bubble wrap lined inside the greenhouse - it appears to help insulate from the high temperatures and also diffuse the strong sunlight. Having just bought a greenhouse - not started on this aspect as yet......
