    Hi all,

    I have a question about which are the best shade loving flowering shrubs. The patch in the garden I want to plant in gets absolutely no sun during the day and desperately needs brightening up. I was thinking of maybe a rhododendron but would welcome any ideas/thoughts you may have.

    Thanks.

    I have two Camelias which grow in total shade and they love it. Most honeysuckles are quite happy too but they will climb - maybe not what you want?

    I've got a hydranga flowering in deep shade. You could also try Sarcococca confusa which has a scent to it too, but doesn't grow that big.

    @weas3l

    Agree with all of the above.

    I may be a bit biased because I'm a Rhododendron freak, but they come in all shapes, sizes and colours. You can even get scented ones and they are also evergreen so you don't get bare patches in winter.

    Millais Nurseries website is a good resource although a lot are out of stock this time of year. Try mid October onwards when they bring the new stock in. They can be a bit pricey but good for finding what you want and the plants are decent sizes.

    I have 3x hosta shrubs in total shade, and they grow fine. White flowers they produce during summers are nice. I will be dividing them soon planting into other shady areas of the garden, as they are now in very large clumps.
