    Hi everyone

I've managed to get hold of lots of good quality plastic sheeting, all for free. I'm planning on building a greenhouse.

The only problem is that the plastic is slightly shaded - I'd say about 10% of light doesn't get through.

Do you happen to have experience of growing under shaded glass/plastic? Is it a bad idea that I should just forget about? Or should I just use the shaded plastic for the roof and get hold of clear stuff for the front and sides?

    Cheers very much,
    Alexei

Hi timecharger. I'd have thought that it would be fine, after all, most of us that have greenhouses need to provide shade for our toms etc. The only thing is, that it MIGHT seem a little darker during the winter months. This MIGHT cause some early sowings to become a little 'leggy', but I reckon you'll have no problems. Will the g/house be sited in an unshaded spot ? If so, I'd go ahead with it. Hope this helps, cheers...freddy.

Thanks Freddy - that sounds like decent and reasonable advice. I think I'll go ahead and see how it fares...

If you could keep the early stuff in an unshaded cold frame and transfer to the shaded greenhouse as it warms up it souldn't be a problem...

Hi Nathan. I just scrounged them at the back of a Matalan store - they had chucked away lots of display cabinets, so I took them off from there.

Good luck in your own hunt for them
