    Hi
Another question (glad I found this site again)
I had a large tree cut down a couple or three years ago which was in back corner of my garden
I tried to plant a bush there, but it hasn't taken at all so I dug it out last autumn and just put a bird feeding station there. I am not getting a great variety of birds (though there are a few) but I really want to plant something in the space. Its about 1 metre square -quite shady (from end of large shed and trees in neighbours gardens).
I don't want another big tree but would like to have something the birds could use to feed or nest in?
The slabs will be easily removed and back corner is wild ?weeds which flower which I'll dig up

Wonder why the bush you planted failed? Is the tree stump/root removed? If not you will have trouble getting much to grow in there.

Yes root was removed and I filled with compost, but I'd transplanted bush and didn't have a clue what I was doing so it was probably wrong time year or it needed sun or wrong soil -could have been anything

Ok, I'd go for a Cotoneaster - berries for the birds and all year round colour interest.

I agree with going for a cotoneaster. Mine is in quite a shady spot and is flowering at the moment. The bees like it too.
