shady rockery

    hi everyone

    i am about to plant up a small rockery in shady corner, has anyone any ideas on what i should use to plant. That would survive in these conditions any advice would be very welcome.

    If you can keep the slugs at bay then hostas, and ferns do well in shade too. Some of the small foxgloves wouldn't mind it either. ( Foxy variety I think)

    Most true 'alpines' prefer sun. You could try some of the mossy saxifrages and also primulas do not mind a little shade. Dwarf bulbs would do ok too.

    Ajuga makes great ground cover, is low growing and does fine in shade. It also spreads well and has lovely blue flowers.

    I would say a lot depends on how dark the shade is.

    Periwinkle is supposed to be OK in shade, although mine has never flowered :(

    Small ferns like athyrium filix femina or asplenium scolopendrium?
