    Hi Kathy. I never thought of that, what a fliipin' good idea ! :thumb: A friend of mine is going to give me some Scallions (or Welsh Onions), maybe this idea would be a better option, hmm. Cheers...freddy.

    Kathy, do you mean you stagger the planting of your shallot sets right through the summer?

    Hi John ,yes I plant them about every 2 weeks ,but I grow them in the greenhouse ,and they come up
    quickly ,don't plant them to deeply, I always leave about A quarter out of the soil
    water well and they keep me going well into the autumn
    hope this helps,will post another photo here and let you see

    Thanks for the idea Kathy. I've got some on the way for shallots but I'm going to put some in for spring onions as they can be a bit hit or miss. Mind, some of my spring onios from last year got missed and they stood through the winter. We finished them last night.

    here you go John and Alice,I do 3 or 4 to an 8inch pot depending on the size of your bulbs

    Hi Kathy,

    when do I know my shallots are ready for lifting (and eating ;-)).
    The green shoots are about 8 inches long.

    hi bashy i would lift one now. cut of the bottom and seperate
    lovely and fresh spring onions,good luck
