Does anyone out there use shallots as a winter vegetable? My wife pickles the small ones & uses the rest in place of onions. I still grow onions but use them before Christmas as they don't keep, but shallots will keep till next June.I was told by a former neighbour that you should grow onions & shallots in the same place every year but I am dubious & continue to rotate them.

Yeah I always grow shallots now instead of onions. As you say they do keep well, but usually I cant grow enough to last much passed Feb, as we eat them all the time, instead of onions.
