Shane died today RIP. A poet A punk A legend. He bought traditional Irish music to the younger folk. Not everyone’s cup of tea.
I love Pogues and Shane, even though I don't usually suffer badly behaving addicts. But there is something very bare and genuine here, an unhandsome lad belting away songs from his grandparents' past with true feeling. This one with Dubliners is a gem, Shane is obviously drunk and looks like one of those misfits behind the Metro station and yet the clip is full of joy of playing and singing together. Wonderful.
