Hi all, was away in Port Carlisle this last week and went to Silloth. At the sea edge (promonade) a couple of lads brought to our attention a '?' in the water very close.

There were a couple of fishing boats and so plenty of sea birds around. Then we had pointed out this 'shark'. Well, it did surface once more and all I can describe is that it definately had a fin on the back and looked very dark, I would say black but couldn't swear to it. It had a lovely slow albeit fleeting poise about it, didn't come too far out of the water. I got the camera out but by then it was probably half a mile down the coast!

What do you reckon it was? The two lads were disagreeing and said shark, seal and then otter. Even I know seals & otters don't have fins. I said maybe dolphin and was laughed at - maybe with good reason but not from someone saying otter!

So any ideas? Do any of you live around that area? I watched the local news but maybe it is commonplace. Please put us out of our misery:scratch:.

    cheers

From what I can browse there certainly are Common Dolphins in that area borrowers.
Whatever it was you are so lucky:thumb:,I have spent many an hour trying to spot one off Lands End in vain.

Thanks everyone. I think it was a dolphin and yes I do feel lucky to have seen it just wish it would have popped up again within sight.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Pal.

    cheers
