Build your own? Definitely the way to go having seen the 'quality' sheds both I and others have bought in last 10 years

Why thank you. Have you bought your new shed yet btw?

It depends on how much you are willing to spend on your shed. But if your cost is limited then I would suggest buying a kit and erecting it yourself. If money is not that tight then look in the yellow pages and find a shed manufacturer, who will usually erect the shed inclusive in the price.

I've dealt with both kit form sheds and custom made ones from a local shed manufacturer. If you're after a specific shed type or want a window or door in a certain way then they can cater for this. Be prepared however to pay probably 3 times as much as you would for a kit built shed. The quality however is far superior than a kit built one, the cladding and roofing are a lot thicker than mass produced sheds and usually look better too.

I'm not sure where you are based but I have dealt with this company in the past. They are expensive but can give you the shed/summerhouse you want. My dad bought a shed from them before I was born and it's still standing 25 years later. It's had a few boards replaced in the past and the roof a few times but it's still sound. My parents also bought a summerhouse too which is still going strong 8 years on.

There are other companies out there who do the same type of thing but not as good in quality but are slightly cheaper. The OH's workshop came from a company and was sort of custom built to his needs. I can't remember the company name but they were on ebay. They delivered the shed and were going to erect it but we didn't have a base down in time.

The cheapest option would be to use an online company who mass produce them if you're not fussed about price or quality. There are some really poorly built sheds out there but I would recommend Elbec for there quality. They also erect sheds, but want £200 extra I think for the job. Stay away from the company Waltons they built my first shed and it was truly awful.

      Hope that helps :blue thumb:

@Jungle Jane - I haven't done anything more with it as yet; the greenhouse last year was a bit of a departure for me, as I usually plan things to the n'th degree and buy the best that I can afford. The current shed will hold up for at least a year I think, so the planning goes on. :blue thumb:

I have no doubt that I will be back to bug you for more advice when I am closer to buying though, so I will apologise in advance ;)
