I've had a Sheen flame gun for several years, but when I got it there was no wick or instruction book. Up to now I've achieved ignition by using a small gas blowlamp.
I've just bought a maintenance kit to replace a couple of washers and a wick came along as part of the kit.
My question is - How does the wick fit? Does it go through or under the coil and where is it normally attached to?

Another question - Are there any safety warnings in the manual e.g. maximum operating pressure?

BTW I got spares from 'MowerMagic' placed order on Sun 25th and parts arrived this morning Tues 27th. Pretty good service:thumb:

I never thought the wick did any good - others may disagree. The coil at the end needs to get hot enough to atomise the fuel, so you then get a "jet", which itself warms the coil, and so on.

I stick the end in a little pile of burning paper / twigs until it is hot enough to sustain the jet; quicker than waiting for the little wick to bring the thing up to temperature.

The weeds should be scorched first then after several hours, go over them again and burn off. Don't try to do it all at once.

Operating pressure: There is a pressure gauge and if it hasn't got a red line or area then pump up to just below maximum, don't go above that.

    Thanks Kristen & Larkshall.

But I'd like to know how the wick (which may well prove less efficient than my gas blowlamp) is fitted. Should it go through or under the coil and how is it secured?
I do have a pressure gauge, but no red line on it and so far I've only pumped pressure up to about 40 or 50% of full scale. It works fine at this but I'm curious to know if there is a maximum recommended operating pressure.

"Should it go through or under the coil and how is it secured"

I think mine was attached to the outer metal cylinder such that, when laid on the ground, any flame came upwards from the wick onto the coil (and it was possible to dribble some oil out, onto the wick (to keep/get it going), before the coil got properly hot.

Ive never really liked flame guns, not least after I set light to a conifer!!!!

when Ive used them I always used to shuv a burning rag up the end to light it. Not sure about the wick, perhaps you might be able to down load a manual.
