    Hi,

I brought 4 bags of onions from wilkos yesterday.

Would i be ok to plant them tomorrow?

I live in Southampton if it makes any difference?

    Hi Adam

You need to check the temp of the soil first, but don't worry about not being able to put them in yet, best to wait till the ground is right first :)

    Thought as much.

This is the last weekend i have free until mid april (busy boy!)

I know i might be going against the grain but i might just go for it and cover them with a fleece.

you have to be careful with fleese keeping too much moisture inaround this time of year, I asked if I should with ,y over wintering onions and was advised not to.

A sheltered spot with some potting compost might help too.

    Good luck :thumb:

well, i think i might leave them for a couple of weeks and take an afternoon "off" ;)

Still, plenty of digging to do and compost bins to finnish off.

    Thanks for the input Jo

I've just looked in my garden diary. I'd made a note in there not to plant onions before 1st April. I seem to remember not putting onions in until the end of April last season and they were fine.

Adam you just have to work with what time you've got, things seem to catch up when planted later, you might not get such early onions as others but I'm sure that doesn't matter. I've found when planting in Jan/Feb that my onions tend to bolt (produce flower heads) so I try and leave it a bit later - say March/April.
