I have a Weigela which has ivy growing up it. I know you don’t need to remove it from trees in general but not sure about this. Now would be a good time as its easy to see and remove.thanks

I'd get rid of it, you will regret leaving it in a few years time, it swamps everything once it gets going.

100% remove it. My new garden was (and still is) full of ivy. Some trunks are inches thick. Its in hedges, swamping a tree and was climbing up walls.

If you want ivy then make sure it’s in a really well contained pot and watch it like a hawk!

I would remove as much as you can. It'll probably start growing back, and a small amount won't hurt if you keep it under control.

While the ground is wet, you should be able to cut the main stem leaving sufficient length to grasp and pull from the soil*. You can remove that within the shrub at any time. Infact, once severed, it will shrivel and become more visible, assisting removal from the shrub gently.
*assuming its not been established 'for ever' !
