Should I somehow lift the lower branches as they seem very low.

For a tree, it's too near the fence because the trunk expands as it grows. When you plant a tree you should always imagine what size it'll be when it's fully grown.

Personally I would leave moving it now until the Autumn then it will have the winter to get its roots down for next year.. If you move it now it will struggle all the way through the summer if it makes it and then just be too weak to establish, so I would leave until Autumn, it won't hurt till then..

Even as a fan trained tree it is too close to the fence. Is it a fruiting cherry?
Had the tree been planted further away, and it was meant to be trained, I would have lifted those side branches and tied to bamboo canes at 45 degrees
However, it is important to know the variety Stig :)

Sorry, I don't know what type of cherry it is as I didn't get it. Yes it's been moved once from a pot it out grew. Is it to late to lift to around the 45%. Thank you.

Do you know if it's a fruiting cherry or ornamental? Fruiting ones can be trained against a wall, that's all :). No label?
Could be very vigorous so need plenty of space
I would guess it's an ornamental ....in that case best to grow it as a free standing tree. . If you delay moving it the branches will not develop all around the tree (they will have a"flat" side) so I WOULD move it asap despite the recommendation not to move in the growing season! Dig as much of the rootball as possible (I think it will be pretty small anyway) ....have a planting hole ready elsewhere.....and plant it out. Water really well...drench it at planting time, mulch too if possible, and water well at least once a week for the summer.
Sorry Stig.....you are prob more confused than ever now :dunno:
