Born from the "show your pets"-thread I would be interested in what you have built (or planted) to exclusively serve your furry, scaly or feathered friends.

Thinking back there was quite a few things they made me do. My father for example is building a wall as we speak to hinder his new puppy from running away.

Since our cats are a relatively new addition to our family most projects tend to serve them.

So I give you the first project - a cat door.
I removed the built in window (added for thermal insulation by the previous owner) and two of the old glass bricks, which was astonishingly easy and took only a single minute. I then added two panes of PMMA "glass" (here still seen with the tinted protection on it) with about a centimetre of air as an insulating gap, sawed fitting holes into both of them and added the cat-door. It has a built in sensor so only let in the cats with the right tracking chips implated. After that I used silicone to properly seal all the gaps.
    All three cats approve!

Secondly there is this "temporary" thing. Built in a hurry with two scared cats sitting on top of the roof because they jumped from the second floor window, I built it from an old fence post and some scrap wood to give them easier access. Now they mostly use it to scratch their claws. Maybe I will plant something climbey onto it, don't know yet

Are there any projects you made and you would be willing to share? It can only get better from here...

Well done on your projects which obviously were done without a cat-astrophy!

When we had some trees pollarded last September, T'other Half made a "Launching Pad" for the cats from the Jacaranda to the deck.

The fronds have come back so Van sleeps up there every day hiding from the sun.

There's a perspex shelter at the side of my garage and when I had it built (by someone else because I am useless at DIY) I asked if they'd put a hole in the door so that Bella cat could go in and out.
It lets all the cold air in so I'm thinking of having it changed for a cat flap.

Apart from a cat flap in the back door that's all I've got for her, as I said I'm useless lol :heehee:

                @Michael Hewett
We wanted to do the same with the door separating the driveway/garage from the garden.

But the previous owner was no cheapskate and built in a wrought iron door which he then completed by welding 2 mm stainless steel sheets onto the outside.

For all purposes that thing is near impregnable with the tools at my disposal. So the cats have to take the scenic route over the fence, my neighbors garden and back in the front

You'll never get any intruders with that door @Black Dog !

In my shelter there's another door at the far end which goes out to the little back road, but there's no opening in it for Bella.
The ground slopes a bit and there's a gap at the bottom of the door, and she used to be able to crawl under it. But she's got too fat now so she just crouches down and peeps out, or sometimes she 'meows' loudly until I open it for her, knowing she always gets her own way. She's too lazy to take the scenic rout :heehee:

When I get a better door put there I'll have a cat flap in it for her.
