Can I add shredded leaves to my compost as (brown stuff) or is it best not to add them and just save as leaf mould

If its purely leaves best make leafmould, but if its say 50/50 with lawn mowings they would be fine on the compost heap.

My understanding is that leaves are excellent when composted. However they take much longer - 2 or 3 years - to break down. So I would suggest that you keep them seperately.

I put compost material into black bin bags. You will need to water the bags and punch a few holes in them. You can then pile them up in a heap and leave as many as you like as long as you like. I usually store them in order of age. Then when you want to use them, you just open the bag and have a look and if its not composted enough yet - put it back.

I store my shredded leaves and chopped woody stuff in bags and a bin and just add in thin layers to my main 2 year cycle heap. Rots down a treat.
