Justicia (syn Beloperone). We got this in December and it got blown out of it's pot in a high wind! :( We thought we had lost it but I trimmed it back and it pulled through. [IMG] In the ground these can reach six feet tall and four feet wide, but we think we'll keep our in a pot! [IMG]

It's a nice plant LoL but as you say, they grow big and unless cut back frequently become straggly, which is why I think they lost their poularity over the last couple of decades. :(

of all the 70's fashion plants, this is the one I like least - but it's fascintating! Well worth having for being a conversation piece (even if the conversation starts "What IS that plant??" ;) - a bit Little Shop of Horrors stuff!

I like it, yes mine is straggly and needs cutting down, but I can't bring myself to when it is in full bloom.

Guess it's something to do with my past as a flower child in the 60's and 70s.

Know what you mean, Rich (Scott Mackenzie and all that)! [IMG] As mine was cut back to nearly nothing before it bloomed, I'm lucky on that score ... not straggly at all. The problem I've got is that because it's in the sun till early afternoon the brachts / blooms have faded so may need to move it to a shadier locale with many more months of heat to come yet!
