Thank you @Silver surfer I do remember growing one of these from seed about 8-9 years ago, I thought it was long gone, obviously not!, just hidden away at the bottom of my mum's garden, well its now back in my possession, let's see how it does :)

              Wow..that is VERY quick.
Was it already mature when you bought it?
How many flowers did you get the first time it flowered?

Bluebell Nursery say..."Notes: Davidia involucrata can take a long time to flower: 15 - 20 years is considered typical."
They sell plants 3-4 years old.

                Hi Ss
It was about 3 to 4 years old and a about a meter high when I bought it I ooeed and arhged for over a hour should I buy it or not as it was I think £35 at the time knew it was a bargain.

Following year it sprouted a new strong leader from the base soon out grew the original branches , and this is the one that has flowered in fact it in flower now as I type so 2nd year.

I have only lived here 11 years in September.

It also set seed last year as well it was covered in bloom over 50 , not as many this year about 30 ish , its a great foliage plants, great ribbing on the leaves

This was ours tree in South Wales...taken in the autumn 28th Oct 2011.
It flowered for the first time just as we put the house up for sale...so we never saw it in its full magnificence.
