My neighbour has conifers which overhang part of my garden. The soil is always very dry and nothing seems to survive. As a novice gardener I would be grateful for any ideas on plants and shrubs that will tolerate a dry, sunny position. Thanks

I think your not going to have much luck under conifers. Not only will it be dry but probably low on nutrient aswell, conifer roots travel a long way and tend to be near the surface.
Spring flowering bulbs might do well but thats not going to give much colour year round.
Can you raise the soil level and perhaps create a rock garden?

Thank you for your very helpful reply. I can raise the soil level and a rock garden sounds ideal. Thanks again.
