    Hi all,

my house faces west at the back garden, so am looking for some medium to large size shrubs I could put in large tubs around the fence. The east facing fence gets the most sun but the garden in general is a bit of a wind tunnel.
I have a couple of Clematis planted in the ground and are thriving, so things will grow in that position as it`s quite open. No side of my garden will get sun all day though.
I have Rhoddies at the south facing wall of my house and they are doing well too.

So am looking for hardy, shade and wind tolerant shrubs. Any suggestions?

    Thanks
    Andy

Elaeagnus are hardy and wind tolerant. Also try Portuguese Laurel or Osmanthus x burkwoodii.

I live on a windy island and also in a coastal position so need plants that are fairly wind proof. These are hardy.......

    Escallonia
    Griselinia
    Hebe
    Potentilla (shrub form)
    Rosa Rugosa

      Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Here is a photo of the area and am thinking of adding some more Clematis around 12 feet apart but keeping them in pots. Do Clematis do OK in pots? I`ll fill in the spaces with some of the suggestions. I like the Rosa Rugosa.
