My red/brown cordyline is not looking too healthy really since I planted it.

First symptoms were some leaves folded over, but now a few more leaves are folding over and some also have brown areas where the leaves are thinning (top to bottom not side to side) and drying out and some brown areas at the end of the leaves. Some of the thinning brown areas are now actually holes in the leaves. it doesn't look like anything is eating the plant just that it is not very well.

The folding leaves I think now is bacause te leaves are becoming thinner and weaker. I bought the plant about 2-3 months ago and planted it outside in compost.

I'd agree. Its a semi-tropical plant and winter has been very harsh this year. I'm wondering which borderline plants will reappear this Spring.

Should I leave it or take it inside? You think it will die, it doesn't look too bad...

I would say the damage has been done now. Just my opinion, but bringing it indoors might be even more of a shock to it at this stage and it might start to recover as we're (apparently) coming into late winter now.

Is the compost around the base lifting, as if the ground as frozen then expanded? If so, maybe trample it down a bit. I don't really know what else to suggest, but hopefully someone else will be able to advise.

Having a similar problem with mine - compost froze and lifted it so i tamped it down... then it happened again! Think it's knackered but time will tell.
